DATA FEED RATES (DFR) CHART
SOLID CARBIDE DRILLS

HOW TO USE THIS CHART:
Application Example:
Drilling a 1/2” dia. hole in alloyed steel 4150 270BHN with a QC21 drill.
To Find Cutting Feed Rate (IPR)

Select your SFM from the AMG charts
The Alpha symbol in the SFM indicate material code
Match material code and drill diameter to find IPR
Calculate RPM (SFM/D x 3.82)
Calculate IPM (IPR x RPM)

Drilling Terminology/Operating Formulas
The following terms and formulas can be used to determine the appropriate operating parameters.
Terms Formulas
IPM = Inches Per Minute IPR x RPM = IPM
IPR = Inches Per Revolution IPM/RPM = IPR
RPM = Revolutions Per Minute SFM x 3.82/D = RPM
SFM = Surface Feet Per Minute D x RPM x .26 = SFM
D = Drill Diameter
